In memoriam: Dr Clara Pelissier-Langbort

Today I would like to pay tribute to Dr Clara Pelissier-Langbort

Dr Clara Pelissier was born on 7 December 1933.She died on 22 April 2024.

Dr Pelissier was an emblematic personality in gynecology in France and in Europe.

In France Clara Pelissier obtained her medical degree in 1964 and her specialization in gynecology in 1967.

She worked in private medical sector while being « attachée des hôpitaux de Paris ».

In 1995, she received the rank of knight of the National Order of Legion of Honor.

In 2001 she wrote a practical guide in gynecology, published by Elsevier-Masson and she collaborated to several scientific books and publications devoted in particular to contraception.

Notably, she was the first in France to propose chlormadinone acetate as a contraceptive method for women at high cardiovascular risk.

She was the President of the French Society of Gynecology, the oldest French scientific society. Afterwards she became the Honorary President in charge of the European affairs of this society.

In Europe, Clara PELISSIER, together with 4 other founders, was a founding member of the European Society of Gynecology (ESG).

Together with Professor Albert Netter, Doctor Alice Lambert-Netter, Professor Hoang Ngoc Minh and Doctor David Serfaty, she played an important role in the life of our Society (ESG).

She was the general secretary of ESG from its creation in 1992 to October 2007.

During the 7th congress of our society in Paris, she was elected President of ESG and afterwards she became the Emeritus Honorary President of ESG.

Later, she stayed involved in the ESG initiative of Albert and Alice Netter Prize for young European researchers in gynecology.

It can be said that from 1992 to 2024 Dr. Clara Pelissier was the soul and a kind of watchful and caring mother to our dear society.

She worked well on this earth. May her soul rest in peace.
