The European Society of Gynecology is a scientific association that studies and promotes advances in gynecology, obstetrics, and reproductive medicine across Europe. To this end, the Society organises a biennial international congress and contributes to the biennial Alice and Albert Netter Days; it fosters contacts among specialists in these disciplines across European countries; it promotes clinical and biological research; it supports the education provided by its members and the wider dissemination of specialist knowledge through meetings, courses, and schools; it encourages research projects and the exchange of experience among its members; and it cooperates with other organizations pursuing related aims. Among the instruments through which the Society pursues its mission is support for scientific publications, including European Gynecology and Obstetrics, its official journal.
The Society continues the activities of the Société Européenne de Gynécologie (SEG), a non-profit association originally based in Paris and known internationally as the European Society of Gynecology.
The Society's principal activities include its biennial international congress, the most recent edition of which was held in Riga in March 2025 and the next of which is scheduled in Porto, Portugal, in 2027; the Alice and Albert Netter Days; the Alice and Albert Netter Prize; and a program of workshops and webinars. Governance is provided through a Board of Directors and dedicated Committees, in accordance with the Society's Statute.
European Gynecology and Obstetrics (EGO) is published as the Society's official open-access journal. Editorial responsibility rests with the Journal's Editorial Leadership, which has full editorial independence; the Society holds the editorial brand and provides scientific legitimacy, as set out on the Publisher Information page and in the Editorial Policy Statement.
