Abstract

To investigate the therapeutic effect of pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) on ovulation and fertility in a patient with congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH). We report on a 25-year-old woman diagnosed with CHH and treated with hormone replacement therapy to develop secondary sexual characteristics and maintain normal hormone levels. At the age of 35, she wished to conceive a baby for which pulsatile GnRH (15µg/90 min) was used. Following a five-month treatment period, the patient became pregnant and she delivered a 3,150-gram male child after normal labour at 37 weeks of pregnancy. Long-term management of female patients with CHH is critical. Hormone replacement therapy promotes the development of secondary sexual characteristics and maintains normal hormone levels. Ovulation induction and pulsatile GnRH therapy are required when the patient requests fertility treatment.
