Choosing where to submit is one of the few decisions in the life of a paper that remains entirely yours.
It determines who will read your work, on what terms they will be allowed to reuse it, how long it will take to reach them, and what it will cost you to get there. European Gynecology and Obstetrics (EGO), the official journal of the European Society of Gynecology, is built on a straightforward proposition: the standards that international scholarly publishing demands of authors should not come with a price tag attached.
A European scientific society stands behind the Journal
European Gynecology and Obstetrics (EGO) is the official journal of the European Society of Gynecology.
The Society brings together specialists in gynecology, obstetrics and reproductive medicine across the European countries, and continues the work of the Société Européenne de Gynécologie, the non-profit association from which it originates and which has long been known internationally as the European Society of Gynecology. Its purpose is to study and promote advances in these disciplines. It organizes a biennial international congress, whose sixteenth edition was held in Riga in March 2025 and whose seventeenth will take place in Porto in 2027.
The Editor-in-Chief, the Associate Editors and the Editorial Board hold full and independent authority over scientific content.
Neither the Publisher nor the Society intervenes in decisions concerning individual manuscripts. Your paper is assessed on scientific merit, methodological rigor, originality, relevance to the readership and compliance with ethical principles. Financial, political, institutional and personal considerations have no bearing on the outcome.
Diamond open access: no charge to you, no barrier to your readers
The Journal operates a zero-charge model. There is no article processing charge, no submission fee, no page charge, no color charge and no surcharge of any kind, at any stage of the editorial or production process, for authors, their institutions or their funders. The same applies to articles published in special collections, where the use of waivers or fee incentives as an inducement to submit is expressly prohibited.
On the reader side, there is no subscription and no paywall. The embargo period is zero days: the full text of every article is publicly accessible at the very moment of publication. All content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), and authors retain copyright in their work.
The Publisher bears the costs of publication with the support of the Society. A strict separation keeps the editorial process distinct from all financial operations, and that separation is guaranteed under the present model and any future arrangement.
Peer review that respects your time
The Journal adopts a double-anonymized model.
The service levels are public and monitored quarterly.
The deadlines for revision are equally explicit: 30 calendar days for minor revisions, 60 for major ones.
Online First: the accepted article does not wait for an issue
A Digital Object Identifier is assigned to the article at the moment of acceptance and communicated to the corresponding author in the acceptance notification. The article is published in the Online First section as the definitive Version of Record as soon as it is ready and before assignment to a numbered issue.
Online First is the ordinary route for every accepted article, not an optional or paid service. The article has no provisional status: it is immediately citable, published under the CC BY 4.0 license with no embargo, and its metadata are deposited with Crossref and the Journal's preservation services as of that date. When the article is subsequently assigned to an issue, it retains the same identifier and stable address; only the volume, issue, and page range are added.
Discoverability and permanence are written into the metadata
Metadata are prepared to the standards that discovery infrastructures rely on, including ORCID identifiers for authors, ROR identifiers for institutional affiliations, and CRediT contributor roles. Metadata are exposed for harvesting via OAI-PMH, disseminated through OpenAIRE, and Google Scholar acquires the Journal's content.
Long-term availability is secured by CLOCKSS and by the PKP Private LOCKSS Network, with deposits performed within 30 days of online publication; the Journal's preservation coverage is recorded in the Keepers Registry under eISSN 2710-2580.
The Journal is engaged in a sequential program of candidacy to the principal bibliographic databases, with inclusion in the Directory of Open Access Journals as the immediate objective, followed by Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed Central. Only confirmed indexing is currently listed as an attribute of the Journal.
A range of formats for the variety of your work
The Journal publishes Original Articles, Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses, Narrative Reviews, Protocols, Guidelines and Consensus Statements, Case Reports and Case Series, Data Notes, Letters to the Editor, Commentaries and Perspectives, Position Papers and the Opinion Corner, a section dedicated to personal viewpoints on controversial or emerging questions. Study protocols and Data Notes give methodological work and reusable datasets a citable home of their own.
Standards that protect the scientific record and your reputation
The Journal operates in accordance with the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics, the Recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice of the Directory of Open Access Journals and the Declaration of Helsinki. Reporting follows the relevant EQUATOR standards: CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, CARE, ARRIVE, and SAGER for reporting sex and gender, a requirement of particular weight for a journal dedicated to women's health.
All submissions undergo similarity screening through Crossref Similarity Check. Every original article carries a Data Availability Statement, in line with the FAIR principles. The use of artificial intelligence must be declared and can in no case be recognized as authorship. Corrections, retractions and expressions of concern are published with their own DOI and permanently linked to the article to which they refer.
Judged on merit, not on metrics
The Journal adheres to the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment. The Impact Factor and other single bibliometric indicators are not used as the exclusive criterion of quality, and any indicator reported publicly comes from an authorized source and is attributed as such.
The same principle governs who publishes in the Journal. Plurality of geographic origin, career stage, gender, and scientific perspective is actively pursued among authors, reviewers, and Board members, with particular attention to European areas traditionally underrepresented in the international literature of the field.
